How this site is made.
The tools, type and principles behind AH El Salvador — Astro, Cloudflare Workers, Manrope and Inter, and a strong preference for pages that load instantly.
Updated
Built with
Astro, static by default. Almost every page here is HTML generated at build time; only the affiliate redirects and the form endpoints run on demand.
Cloudflare Workers, serving from the edge, so a page loads at the same speed in San Salvador as in Los Angeles.
Tailwind CSS, with a small set of design tokens rather than a component library.
Markdown and MDX, in a content collection with a typed schema, so a guide cannot be published missing its update date or its source.
Type
Headings are Manrope, set bold and tight. Body text and interface are Inter. Both are self-hosted as variable fonts — one file per family, no third-party font service, no request to Google on page load.
The palette is four colours: charcoal #111111, brand blue #2563EB, light gray #E5E7EB and off white #F8F9FA. Blue carries every emphasis on the site — links, hovers, the active nav marker — so nothing else has to compete for attention.
Pictures
Photographs are processed at build time into modern formats at several widths. Nothing is loaded that is not needed. Credits and licences are on every image; terms are on the licence page.
Principles
Analytics you can refuse. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland nothing is stored and nothing is sent until you accept. Everywhere else the Cookies link in the footer turns them off. See the privacy policy.
No advertising cookies, no advertising network, no retargeting, no profile built about you.
Dates on everything. If a page has not been checked this year it says so.
Affiliate links marked and walled off — routed through /go/, rel="sponsored nofollow", blocked in robots.txt. See the disclosure.
Nothing hidden from a reader that is shown to a crawler.
