How this site makes money.

AH El Salvador earns from affiliate links, directory listings, sponsored posts and photo licensing. Here is exactly how, and what it does and does not buy.

Updated

This site is free to read and it costs money to run. Here is every way it earns, in plain terms.

Some links to hotels, tours, insurance, eSIMs, flights and car hire are affiliate links. If you book through one, we receive a commission from the company at no additional cost to you. You pay the same price you would pay going direct.

Every affiliate link on this site routes through /go/ and is marked rel="sponsored nofollow". Those URLs are blocked in our robots.txt, so none of it is crawled or indexed.

What that does not buy

A recommendation. Nothing appears on this site because a commission was offered, and several of the things we recommend most often pay us nothing at all. When we think a paid option is worse than a free one, we say so — see the tours guide, which tells you to skip half of them.

Directory listings

Businesses can pay for a featured placement in the directory. Featured listings are labelled. Paying does not affect editorial coverage anywhere else on the site, and we decline listings for businesses we would not use.

We accept a small number of sponsored articles. Every one is labelled Sponsored at the top and in the listing, and links in sponsored content are nofollow. Rates are on the advertise page.

Photo licensing

We licence photographs commercially through our photo library, and release a set free under CC BY 4.0 on the free photos page.

Services

We build and optimise websites for Salvadoran tourism businesses. Details on the services page. Clients do not receive editorial coverage.

If something is wrong

Prices, rules and recommendations go out of date, particularly immigration and tax rules. If you find something incorrect, tell us and we will fix it and date the correction.
