El Tunco
The beach town that never quite goes to sleep.

Last checked
El Tunco is the first place most people land on the Salvadoran coast, and it does two things at once: it is the easiest town in the country to arrive in with no plan, and it is the one most likely to make you think the whole coast is a hostel bar.
It is not. Walk fifteen minutes in either direction and the noise stops completely. That short walk is the difference between a trip you tolerate and one you extend.
Which beach, actually
There are three in walking distance. The town beach is black sand, steep, and has a rip most afternoons — fine for watching, poor for swimming. Sunzal, west, is the long right-hand point and where the surfing actually happens. The river mouth to the east is where the seafood is.
Stay one street back
The main street is where the noise lives. A room a single street inland costs the same, hears almost none of it, and puts you ninety seconds from the same breakfast.
