What drives it
Security, overwhelmingly. The collapse in the homicide rate is the single dominant factor in every poll that asks. Economic sentiment tracks lower and has not moved much.
The disagreement
International human-rights organisations and much of the foreign press report the state of exception as a serious erosion of due process. Salvadoran polling reports very large majorities in favour of it. Both are describing the same policy, and reconciling them is not a job a data page can do.
Reading the numbers
Polling in El Salvador is thin — a small number of houses, occasional methodology changes, and a political environment where some respondents may not answer candidly. Treat the level as approximate and the trend as reliable.
