Introductions
Find an agent — and your own lawyer.
We will introduce you to an agent who actually works with foreign buyers, and separately to a lawyer who does not work for that agent. The second introduction matters more than the first.
What are you looking for?
Area, budget and timing. If you are still deciding, say so — we will introduce you to someone who is fine with that.
Use your own lawyer
Not the seller's notary, and not the one the agent introduces you to. An independent title search costs a few hundred dollars and it is the entire protection you have against the problem that catches most foreign buyers here — unregistered possession and unresolved inheritance.
Rent first
A year. The coast in October is not the coast in February, and people who buy after one dry-season visit are the people selling two years later.
